a brief history...
The square nail studio developed out of that little spot in your brain
that you reserve for those if-I-could-I-would's. I had lived in
the sunshine state since birth and spent most of my life in a small town.
I entered the salon industry in Florida in 1990 because it presented itself
as an occupation of laid back nature, funky and creative and self-governing.
I forged my way through all kinds of salons during many years of discovery.
For all the varying types of salons and spas that I had the privilege to be
a part of, I constantly pondered over how modern everything was. I always
dreamed of copper pedicure tubs, wood tables, mismatched chairs and fabrics,
with lots of pillows. Then again I have always been a bit old-fashioned --
a little more Rembrandt, less Picasso.
In the summer of 2002, I heard about a shop space
available in Davis square. I wanted this tiny little space in Davis to be
what I had always wanted. A natural salon, or more fitting to it's size a
studio, that was exactly how I would decorate my house. Rustic, comfy with
my music, candles and really great company. Quite the ideal workplace.
Though now, we consider it more a gathering place.
I found that the people in Boston and more specifically in Davis square
are some of the nicest, most down-to-earth, artistic and wonderful people
I have ever had the pleasure to meet. Imagine that! The square, its
business and residents have responded so well to the studio and I grin
every time someone comments on how cute it is, or how nice it smells or
my favorite, "that was the best manicure i've ever had!" I meet the best
folks every day and often times I feel that it wasn't just me waiting for
them. Sometimes I think they were waiting for me too. Thank you Davis...
